Welcome to Sharp Hill Vineyards in Pomfret!!

Today we went to Pomfret to visit the Sharp Hill Vineyard. This was a totally different experience than Goveia. Pomfret is about an hour drive from our place-very little of our travel was on the Highway-Most of it was on back country roads. There was a point when I said to my hubby-You better be careful because if someone is traveling in the opposite direction at the same speed then we could get in trouble. You couldn't see up over the humps and the roads were only wide enough for one...maybe one and half cars.

We met Avo and Avo and started in the tasting room. For $10 dollars we got to taste all of the wines (10). The experience was good. I was feeling relaxed by the end and really enjoyed the time spent with the family. S and C had covered chairs which they really appreciated. It made them feel like a King and Queen. The experience was very enjoyable and I would recommend it to someone that wanted a different kind of CT experience. Save your $-It was a bit pricey for dinner but well worth it. The Filet Mignon looked good. I chose the Salmon at the last minute but I wanted to order the Sea Bass orgininally. I got the try the Bass because Avo ordered it and gave me a piece. It was really good. When I go back I will order that if they have it. All in all another wonderful family outing to a local destination. We are planning our trip to Stonington next!!

New Years Resolution
Well I have always believed that January is a time to set the resolutions for the rest of the year. December is always too fast and furious and too many old resolutions broken to be setting time to think about how the new year should play out. While M and P spent the day relaxing-the family went on an adventure that took them to Wallingford-They visited the Gouveia Vineyard. It was fun. The vineyard is Portuguese owned (cool) and was established in 1999. The winery building is built of stone and old timbers and commands a spectacular 360 view of lush woodlands, open fields, grapevines, horses grazing and pristine hundred-year old farms. J and I started our experience by purchasing a wine glass and the opportunity to taste 5 different wines (Cost-$5.50) well worth it! I liked the Stonehouse white wine and J liked the Franco red. We asked if we could try the Whirlwind Rose (which wasn't on the wine tasting list) and they were happy to let us. We both agreed that it reminded us of the wine that we had in Portugal at a wedding we attended when S was a baby. The wine at this wedding was made on the premises and was a sweet rose wine. We were surprised to find out that the wine is actually a mixture of the white stone house and the Franco red!! How lovely! (and a bit corny:) The experience was fun for our family! Next we plan on visiting Sharpe Hill Vineyard in Pomfret. So... one of our goals this year is to visit the 19 vineyards on the CT wine trail. Maybe you can join us.

Good morning-Only two more days until the family goes back to school. It has been a lot of fun around here with everyone home. We stay up late and sleep in late-but that will be changing on Monday. I know that mom has a goal of running across the country just like her dad use to do when she was growing up. She isn't going to actually run ACROSS the country but she is going to log the miles so that she can see how far she gets in one year. So far she has gone 10 miles-Only 2990 left to go-She has made it to Windsor locks-WOW she has a lot of work to do.
Well today we are contining to rejoice in the birth of Jesus so we hung out by the Nativity set this morning. This being the 9th day of christmas. We will keep the Nativty set up for the full Christmas season...12 days. Have a great day!
Three Kings Day, also known as The Epiphany, is celebrated on January 6th, twelve days after Christmas. It is often viewed as the last day of the Christmas season.
